CFB Esquimalt’s Pacific Fleet Club, a social venue for generations of naval seamen and the Greater Victoria community, will be shuttering its landmark facility by mid-2018 and relocating to a yet unnamed temporary space at the Canadian Forces base, Citified has learned.

Opened in 1976 along the shores of CFB Esquimalt’s main entrance, the Fleet Club continues to serve an average membership of some 1,200 military members and hosts numerous events accessible to the Canadian Armed Forces and civilians.

Perched on the side of a rocky cliff overlooking the Salish Sea, the building’s structural integrity has recently come into question. In the interest of safety and rather than expend what could be significant sums of money rehabilitating the 40 year-old structure, top brass at CFB Esquimalt have opted to relocate the Fleet Club’s operations to a temporary facility while formulating a plan for the Club's future presence at the base.

The Pacific Fleet Club is situated at the nexus of Lyall Street and Esquimalt Road. As of the publication date of this article, there are no pubic events currently scheduled at the facility. C
