A 3.3-kilometre extension of Langford's Bear Mountain Parkway will open to traffic at 7PM on Tuesday, April 10, according to the municipality.
The $10.5 million roadway – under construction since the fall of 2016 – will connect the rapidly expanding Bear Mountain Resort community on Skirt Mountain and residential subdivisions sprouting up along its south and west banks.
The parkway will now extend from McCallum Road near the Leigh Road interchange to Country Club Way at the Bear Mountain Resort where the original span of Bear Mountain Parkway connects to Millstream Road.
The new access route will become the resort's primary entrance while the older section will serve as the secondary or alternate route. And with the opening of extension the continuation of the project can proceed to full build-out status.
Langford's road network has undergone significant expansion in recent times with the opening of the West Shore Parkway between Highway 14 and the Trans Canada Highway, the bridging of McCallum Road to allow for a secondary access point to Costco and other big-box shopping retailers north of the Trans Canada Highway, and the Leigh Road interchange that will soon connect with the Bear Mountain Parkway.
Other road network projects in the municipality include a $2.1 million traffic lane realignment on the Millstream Road Trans Canada Highway interchange to help address congestion, a $3 million extension of Leigh Road to Langford Parkway and the Westhills community, and the introduction of a new cut-through between Jenkins Road and Jacklin Road via the upcoming Belmont Market shopping centre. Improvements on Jacklin Road along the Belmont Market frontage are currently underway. C
