As another win for Victoria's technology sector, one of the world’s most recognized real-time-strategy (RTS) video game makers has closed its San Francisco headquarters in favour of the company’s Victoria-based satellite following a multi-million dollar acquisition.
Founded in 2007, Kixeye rose to fame with the invention of a form of gaming known as Massively Multiplayer Online Real Time Strategy, which pits players against each other in real-time on video game consoles and mobile devices.

On June 3 Sweden’s Stillfront Group announced the purchase of Kixeye for US $90 million while pledging upwards of $30 million more pending the company’s financial results for 2019.
"Kixeye fits perfectly into Stillfront's growth strategy by broadening our portfolio of studios and games with characteristics that drive long term gamer relations," said Stillfront CEO Jörgen Larsson in a release. "Kixeye's games portfolio of four strong [intellectual properties] and a well-known brand is a very good contribution to our existing game portfolio and increases the potential for synergies within the Group."
With Kixeye closing its San Francisco offices, Victoria will become the company’s new base of operations while its offices in Brisbane and Melbourne, Australia, and in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam will remain as employment satellites.
Kixeye’s most popular gaming titles include War Commander, Vega Conflict and Battle Pirates. The company opened its Bastion Square studios in 2012 under the direction of Clayton Stark, one of Victoria’s tech industry stalwarts who left game maker Zynga Games to head up Kixeye’s Victoria-based operation.
