The Vancouver Island School of Art (VISA) has been handed a lease termination notice from School District #61, the art school's landlord of 14-years.
Citing growing demand for education facilities, the school district intends to use the two-storey building at 2549 Quadra Street for educational programs targeted at "high school students who are mothers or mothers-to-be," according to a statement issued by VISA's executive director, Wendy Welch.
"VISA, the only contemporary art focused school in Victoria, has been in this location for 14 years and are grateful to the School District for allowing us use of this space during that time," the statement reads.
The district requires VISA to vacate the premises by August of this year.
As for relocation options, Welch notes the school is searching for a facility "that has great light, some parking and is centrally located with some street presence." An ideal location would be within the communities of "downtown Victoria and outskirts (including Saanich), Esquimalt or Oak Bay."
A fundraiser in support of the school's relocation efforts has been planned for May 4th. Tickets are available for $75, or $100 for a two-pack, and can be purchased here. C
