Citified exclusive: A Colwood Corners development site formerly envisioned as a multi-building condominium project is shifting gears to include a complex care hospital and rental housing as its first phase of construction.
Development firm Liberty Ridge Homes is pursuing amendments to its formerly approved 2676 Wilfert Road (at Wale Road) plans for over 400 condominium suites throughout four buildings ahead of a potential land deal with the Capital Regional District.

Proponents are seeking municipal approvals for changes to the supply of on-site parking stalls to coincide with the construction of a six-storey, 144-unit apartment that will include approximately 50% below-market affordable homes together with a 10-storey Capital Regional Hospital District (CRHD) complex care facility to be operated by the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA).
Responding to an enquiry by Citified relating to a future Westshore facility, VIHA issued a statement identifying it is looking at options for a new health facility for the region, although the organization would not elaborate on the services it could offer, nor were architectural studies released due to the recentness of the proposal and its preliminary conceptual state.
“Island Health has been working with the CRHD to explore options for a health facility on the West Shore [sic]. However, we are in the very early stages of this process,” the statement reads. The project, VIHA confirms, will undergo an open and competitive construction tendering process in due course.
At 10-storeys high, the complex care hospital will stand as the tallest building in Colwood and is one of a wave of similarly-scaled buildings earmarked for the Westshore.
The CRHD’s facility will follow in the footsteps of the $86 million Summit at Quadra Village project currently under construction along Hillside Avenue between Blanshard and Quadra streets. The 320-bed elder care hospital is expected to be completed later this year and will be operated by VIHA. C
