Vancouver-based District Investments Group has unveiled plans to redevelop a vacant parcel near Sidney’s town centre into rental apartments.

Proposed with 73 studio, one, two and three-bedroom suites across three levels on a property fronting onto the 10,000-block of Fifth Street and the 2300-block of Malaview Avenue, District’s proposal at will add residential density to Sidney’s core and complete the build-out of the Roberts Manor property that spans in a zig-zag shape between Fifth Street and Malaview Avenue.

The proposal will include 74 underground parking stalls.

Municipal approvals are anticipated by late 2019 or early 2020, providing elected officials yield support for the density and architectural concept.

Situated near 30 kilometers from downtown Victoria, the town of Sidney is the economic heart of Victoria’s Saanich Peninsula region spanning from the Saanich-proper border to North Saanich.

The town and its adjacent communities in North Saanich have undergone a significant development boom in recent years, with multiple condominium and rental apartment projects currently underway and several in planning. Noteworthy projects include the 48-suite Cameo condominium development that will replace Sidney’s Star Cinema with a modern facility, the Regatta Landing condominiums underway a stone’s throw from the Capital City Yacht Club, and Aranza, a workforce rental housing project nearing completion in downtown Sidney.

District Investments Group has multiple proposals underway in Greater Victoria which include the redevelopment of Pandora Avenue's Wellburn's Market property (including a restoration of the historic Wellburn's Building's façade) and a heritage restoration of the Scott Building on Douglas Street at Hillside Avenue together with a new-build addition on its adjacent parking lot.
