114 purpose-built rental apartments are coming to View Royal as part of the second phase of Eagle Creek Village, a mixed-use residential, office and retail development on Helmcken Road at Watkiss Way.
Developer Omicron has received municipal approvals to build the first of two four-storey apartments on a ridge overlooking Eagle Creek’s initial phase.
Unit layouts will range between one, two and three-bedroom homes catering to students, young professionals, families and downsizers.
Initially Omicron had envisioned both buildings as condominiums with approximately 100-units in the form of one and two-bedroom suites. Plans were altered to rentals in light of the region’s ultra-low rental vacancy rate and strong demand for modern, purpose-built apartments, a move rental advocacy organization LandlordBC applauds.
“Omicron’s decision to build more purpose-built rental apartments in Victoria reinforces the need for rental housing in the region, and we’re excited to see they are keen to build this critically important form of housing at Eagle Creek Village,” said LandlordBC CEO, David Hutniak.
Construction of the first building is slated to begin by spring of next year with completion expected by late 2018. Municipal approvals for the second building are expected later this fall.
Eagle Creek Village’s first phase, completed earlier this year, consists of a shopping centre anchored by a Quality Foods grocery store, a five-storey office building and a 60-unit rental building. C
