West Shore road closure: 400 metres of Langford's Jacklin Road to close for upgrades

Article updated on December 20th to reflect an updated road closure date

A 400 metre section of one of the West Shore’s busiest traffic corridors is scheduled to close for a period of four months starting early next year.

Connecting downtown Langford with Sooke Road and Highway 14, Jacklin Road will be shut down starting February 12th to through-traffic between Jenkins Road and the Galloping Goose Regional Trail near the School District 62 head office.

The closure will enable crews to extend a sewer line down Jacklin Road and replace two watermains for the Capital Regional District’s Integrated Water Services.

Improvements to Jacklin Road’s streetscape will include a new signalized intersection at Terlane Avenue, sidewalks on the east side of the roadway, an increase in lanes at the Jenkins Road intersection and improved cycling infrastructure.

As part of road improvements in the immediate area, Jenkins Avenue will also be upgraded with sidewalks on the south side of the road, bike lanes will be added and a new signalized intersection opposite the TD Canada Trust branch at Westshore Town Centre will streamline access to and from the shopping centre.

Motorists won’t be without a nearby detour, however, as crews are currently finalizing the construction of a new municipal roadway between Jacklin Road and Jenkins Avenue. The new road will span from the school district offices to Westshore Town Centre via lands once occupied by Belmont Secondary School.

Named Division Avenue (see the image at the top of this article for an approximate location), the nearly half-kilometre long roadway is part of the Belmont Market mixed-use commercial and residential development now underway on the former school site.

Division Avenue will enable access to Belmont Market’s future residential phases parallel to the Galloping Goose Regional Trail and provide access points to the shopping centre. An additional road, dubbed Merchant Way, will cut through the centre of Belmont Market between Division and Jenkins avenues.

The City of Langford will issue additional public notices prior to the start of road work and construction updates. C
