The Victoria Public Market's purveyor of olive oils and one of downtown Victoria's most recognized retailers has closed following six years of business.

Olive the Senses, operated by Emily and Steve Lycopolus, brought a one-of-a-kind experience to the public market and developed a following among foodies, chefs and olive oil connoisseurs.

"The last [six] years have been a wonderful, crazy ride," writes Emily Lycopolus in an email. "From collaborating with local and international artisans, starting our online store, writing cookbooks, so much has happened."

Lycopolus and partner Steve began their retailing venture at local markets, starting with a small assortment of oils and vinegars.

"I can't believe [six] years ago Steve and I were huddled under a market tent in Bastion Square with [four] olive oils and [five] vinegars, smiles on our faces and totally unsure of what our future would look like. Resting in the reality that we loved olive oil too much and that love was oozing out of us, we just had to share it."

The storefront closed on September 2nd. Lycopolus says there are no immediate plans for a re-opening of Olive the Senses nor any concrete direction the couple will take with regards to their olive oil and vinegar products. C
