One of Vancouver Island’s most popular diners and a landmark in Sooke’s town centre has been listed for sale, Citified has learned.
Mom’s Café – in operation since 1963 along Shields Road at Eustace Road – is on the market for $810,000, a price that includes the single-storey restaurant and its quarter acre land parcel opposite Sooke’s community hall.
An adjacent piece of property ay 6735 Eustace Road has been concurrently placed on the market by the restaurant owner for $375,000, bringing the total land acquisition potential to half an acre for just under $1.2 million.
The 65-seat café at 2036 Shields Road has been a staple of Sooke’s town centre for nearly six decades and operates as one of the seaside community’s oldest businesses. Serving home-style breakfast, lunch and dinner fare seven days a week, Mom’s has become a must-see among visitors to the Capital Region’s Highway 14 corridor and Sooke’s go-to destination for brunch.
Substantial improvements to the restaurant’s interior in 2006 included new booths a brighter experience for patrons. The building itself dates back to 1979.
Although redevelopment of the combined half-acre lot is a likely eventuality in the years to come, Mom’s will remain in operation for the foreseeable future and is being sold as an operating establishment with retained staff. C
