Vancouver Island’s most luxurious hotel room is reportedly just weeks away from its grand reveal.
The storied Fairmont Empress Hotel, purchased in 2014 by Nat and Flora Bosa, has been thrust into a major interior and exterior renovation that insiders have valued at $40 million. The work includes re-envisioned dining areas, which have already opened in the form of a lounge and restaurant on the main floor, while much-needed modernizing of guest rooms will once again re-establish The Empress as Victoria’s flagship hotel.
Despite a relatively transparent renovation process, changes to The Empress’ crowning jewel, known as the Royal Suite, have been veiled in secrecy while crews work on its highly anticipated “glamorous, luxurious design.”
After all, for $12,999 per night only the best will do. Plus tax. Which brings it to just over $15,000 per night.
That’s $12,999 plus tax for one sleep (Canadian, of course). And guests will still be expected to check out by noon.
Here’s what we know so far. The most expensive hotel room on Vancouver Island spans some 1,600 square feet and offers its inhabitants a postcard-perfect view of Victoria’s Inner Harbour. It is described as “undeniably the best hotel accommodation on Vancouver Island.” And so it must be, featuring a “king bedroom,” a living room parlour, a dining room for eight and a modernized spa bathroom with an ensuite powder room.
Artist’s renderings, displayed below, have been released depicting what is believed to be the design of the Royal Suite, although it won’t be for another few weeks that the public will finally get a glimpse of the finished product.
Q Bar, the new lounge at The Empress, re-opened in May as did the restaurant. The Bengal Lounge, which closed in April, will reportedly be transformed into a meeting space or banquet area. C
