Big changes are coming to Blanshard and Broughton streets as Fort Properties nears the reveal of its latest addition to downtown Victoria’s Fort Common District.
Formerly a VanCity Credit Union, the 7,700 square foot two-storey building at 1001 Blanshard Street, which includes a 1,500 square foot rooftop space overlooking the busy intersection, is being transformed into arguably one of the most unique commercial nodes in downtown Victoria.
“We’re pleased to confirm that something truly unique is underway at the Fort Common District,” says Fort Properties’ Leasing and Marketing Manager, Kristen Kitchen.
Kitchen isn’t kidding. The building’s top level is being converted into The Livet, a posh eatery that will boast — here it comes — a rooftop patio. Think The Standard in downtown Los Angeles meets Chateau Victoria’s Vista 18, drop them down several floors, and you get the idea.
“The restaurant with its patio space is going to be a big draw, and with the Royal Theatre just across the street it will undoubtedly be popular among theatregoers before and after performances,” Kitchen said.
The building’s remaining spaces include a ground floor coffee shop and cafe (the name of which is being withheld pending the tenant’s upcoming announcement), a tech office fronting onto Broughton Street and a yet unleased space accessible off Blanshard Street.
Work is also progressing on improvements to The Fort Common, Fort Properties’ tranquil, publicly accessible courtyard space at the very heart of the district.
“Improvements to The Fort Common are underway alongside 1001 Blanshard, and what’s really exciting is that both our existing and our new tenants will be able to make better use of the shared outdoor space,” Kitchen says.
The rooftop restaurant space is expected to be completed by the end of July. The ground level cafe and the tech office should be completed later this summer as well, while the remaining commercial space will be actively marketed near summer’s end. C
