Starlight Developments is seeking approvals for 143 units of rental housing along the 7800-block of Lochside Drive at Mount Newton Cross Road in Central Saanich's Saanichton area.

The proposal calls for developing excess land at 7840 Lochside Drive and 2530 Mount Newton Cross Road, where Starlight owns and operates 126 apartments in a duo of three-storey buildings.

In a six-storey massing, Starlight has proposed a 131-unit rental block on present-day surface parking at the rear of 7840 Lochside Drive, overlooking Highway 17. An underground parkade would service the new-build, comprised of studio through three-bedroom layouts.

Along the Lochside Drive frontages of 7840 Lochside Drive and 2530 Mount Newton Cross Road, Starlight has envisioned 12 units of three-storey townhomes, along with an amenity building, and a commercial building at the northeast corner of the property adjacent to the Marigold Lands development.

The townhomes are planned for what is currently a large lawn fronting two three-storey apartments.

Pending approvals, the total density of residential units on the properties would grow from the present-day 126 units, to 269.

Next door at the Marigold Lands development, Starlight is currently building Bella Vista, a collection of 235 rental residences in two six-storey buildings. Occupancy is anticipated later this year. Construction is progressing on a condominium building also at the Marigold Lands, dubbed Sequoia Residences (see website), with 64 suites now selling, from developer GT Mann Contracting. Sequoia and Bella Vista are the final phases of the expansive Marigold Lands project.

On the West Shore, meanwhile, Starlight is in the midst of constructing a four-building rental community along the 1100-block of McCallum Road in Langford, near Costco. The West Shore project will deliver just under 600 units of rental housing over the next several years.

And in downtown Victoria, Starlight secured approvals for approximately 1,600 units of rental homes across two city blocks in the Harris Green neighbourhood. Phase 1, with approximately 600 homes in two highrise towers, is expected to get underway this year along the 1000-block of Yates Street at Cook Street. Phases two and three, along the 900-block of Yates Street between Vancouver and Quadra streets, will eventually follow. C
