The crew behind Tacofino is readying to open a second Victoria eatery in the space currently occupied by Pig BBQ Joint on Blanshard Street at Johnson Street, Citified has learned.
Although the company is short on details, the yet unnamed Tacofino numéro deux is set to take over the Pig space this spring following the restaurant’s recently announced closure at the end of the month.
The food style and other salacious details have thus far eluded confirmation. However, online murmurs have hinted at the possibility of Middle Eastern-inspired dishes being the driving force behind the expansion.
The Tacofino chain, now five locations strong with three roaming food trucks, was launched in Tofino in 2009 by Jason Sussman and Kaeli Robinsong. The duo’s concept developed such a strong following in BC’s surf capital that hedge-fund manager Matt MacIsaac and entrepreneur Ryan Spong invested into the business and helped the eatery expand to Vancouver, now with four locations, and Victoria, with a location in the 700-block of Fort Street.
