Phoenix, Arizona-based pet supply outlet PetSmart has opened its second south Island location at Uptown Shopping Centre in Saanich.
A large retail space on Uptown’s upper level, formerly used by electronics retailer Best Buy prior to its move to the lower level, was carved into two big-box spaces last year. The split saw craft supply and home interior chain Michael’s relocate from Island Home Centre near Cloverdale Avenue at Blanshard Street to Uptown, followed this month by PetSmart.
PetSmart’s Uptown location includes its pet grooming services as well as dog training classes. The store is open between 7AM and 9PM Monday-through-Saturday and 8AM-6PM on Sundays.
Meanwhile construction on Uptown's 40,000 square foot third phase, anchored by Vancouver Island's first Whole Foods grocery store, is progressing with completion eyed for this fall. And situated along the grocery store's southern perimeter is the location of an upcoming 11-storey, 134-unit rental tower comprised of apartments and a collection of townhomes. Construction is expected to get underway next year, marking the final phase of construction at the shopping centre.
In preparation for Whole Foods' opening crews are constructing an access road from Douglas Street through to Carey Road and Ravine Way. Presently motorists are prohibited from accessing Uptown via Carey Road if traveling northbound along Douglas Street. Once work is completed later this month, motorists will have unimpeded access from Douglas Street to Uptown's third phase and its adjacent residential building. C
