Langford's Bear Mountain Resort has revealed plans to construct a gondola between the development’s commercial core and the top of nearby Mt. Finlayson, a popular hiking and mountain biking destination for south Island residents.
Although plans are still several years out, developer Ecoasis hopes to provide access to the popular natural landmark for individuals with all levels of physical abilities. Additional information regarding the gondola and its operations will be revealed at a future date.
The unexpected news comes on the heels of information released by the resort regarding upcoming development opportunities and confirmation of new retail operations that include a branded 50,000 square foot grocery store opening as early as 2018. And to solidify Bear Mountain as a sports and activity hub, currently under construction are eight clay tennis courts that will peg the development as the home of Canada’s largest indoor/outdoor clay-court tennis facility.
Bear Mountain is currently home to some 3,000 residents with plans to accommodate housing for up to 10,000 individuals, and at max built-out the current housing stock of just over 1,100 residences will increase to 4,000. The latest development phase, dubbed Cypress, will be starting this year with 100 homes, including a series of executive-style townhomes. And work on a secondary access road connecting the community with the Trans Canada Highway (via Leigh Road) is expected to get underway soon. C
