The future of Saanich’s Uptown-Douglas Corridor is the focus of a community engagement session taking place today until 8PM at Uptown Shopping Centre.
Municipal planning staff will present the results of a three-day community design workshop that reviewed and refined ideas surrounding the future of the Corridor, while today’s public consultation is yet another step in the engagement process to further refine the overall plan.
Members of the public attending the drop-in session will be asked to complete a survey, the feedback of which will be used to develop policy that will eventually guide the future growth of the Uptown-Douglas area of Saanich.
With approximately 140,000 individuals residing within a 10-minute drive of the corridor and population growth occurring at a rate of 1.7% per-annum – roughly twice the growth rate of the Capital Region as a whole – the Uptown-Douglas Corridor is regarded as a key target for densification and population growth.
Several residential projects have recently surfaced for the immediate area, including an 11-storey purpose-built rental tower planned as the final phase of Uptown Shopping Centre, multiple residential buildings along Short Street south of the shopping hub, and a nearly 100-unit purpose-built rental project west of Douglas Street along Boleskine Road.
The presentation will be located at #105-3500 Uptown Boulevard within Uptown Shopping Centre and runs between 1PM and 8PM. For online information, visit http://www.saanich.ca/udcp. C
