A daycare for infants and toddlers situated at Langford’s state-of-the-art Belmont Secondary School could welcome children as early as next year, provided officials at School District 62 can find a suitable operator.
The 2,500 square foot purpose-built facility was constructed in 2015 as part of the new Belmont Secondary complex situated in the 3000-block of Langford Lake Road near the Westhills and Aqua communities. The school replaced the original Belmont Secondary campus on Jacklin Road at Jenkins Avenue.
The District set a date of November 10th by which interested operators could submit applications identifying their business model, previous experience managing daycare facilities and a plan for integrating the daycare within the greater secondary school campus.
Once opened, the daycare will be required to prioritize children of Belmont Secondary’s students while interest from school staff, application documents state, is also anticipated to be strong.
Information relating to an opening date for Belmont’s daycare will be announced if and when a successful candidate has been selected. It is not clear how many children will be accommodated at the facility, although daycares typically provide 25-to-50 square feet of indoor space per child. C
