An Esquimalt property purchased by the Capital Regional District (CRD) for use as a sewage treatment plant has been put up for sale, according to documents released by commercial brokerage CBRE Victoria.
836 Viewfield Road, a 59,497 square foot warehouse near the border of Victoria West, was acquired by the regional government along with a neighbouring building at 808 Viewfield Road in 2014 for $17 million. The CRD planned to transform the properties into a sewage biosolids facility, a key component of the now-defunct SeaTerra Program.
Following the Township of Esquimalt’s rejection of the CRD’s sewage treatment plans for both Viewfield Road and its seaside counterpart at McLoughlin Point, the CRD leased 836 Viewfield Road back to the company from whom it purchased the land for a temporary period (the building now sits vacant). Meanwhile a portion of 808 Viewfield Road is planned to open this summer as the Flying Squirrel Trampoline Park. The remainder is available for lease.
Although CBRE Victoria has not revealed the CRD’s asking price for the property, its assessed value is just over $7 million. C
