Victoria council has granted approvals for a 72-unit affordable housing complex proposed by the Victoria Cool Aid Society.
Rising to five-storeys at 210 Gorge Road East, the complex will feature a mix of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom residences, including 32-units of supportive care.
The building will replace an existing Cool Aid housing facility comprised of 21 residences.

City council initially denied an earlier iteration of the project which would have seen a structure rising to six-storeys with 82 residences. Community opposition to the height and size yielded a return to the drawing board and changes to the development application to reflect fewer units and a shorter building.
Construction is expected to get underway by early next year.
The Cool Aid Society has developed several projects throughout the Capital Region in recent years, including the Cottage Grove seniors housing complex on Quadra Street at Tolmie Avenue in Saanich, and has submitted plans to the City of Victoria for Crosstown, a 153-unit affordable housing development between Burnside Road and Douglas Street (naer Finlayson Road) that will also include a commercial component with retail and office spaces.
