Work on the $85 million McKenzie interchange at McKenzie Avenue, Admirals Road and the Trans Canada Highway is set to begin today.
The initial phases of the two year project will focus on clearing the construction area and relocating a regional waterline. Preload materials will be trucked on-site to begin the process of compressing soils prior to the start of construction.
Crews will also start realigning and widening the Galloping Goose Regional Trail to coincide with the future interchange design.
The Ministry of Transportation has outlined requirements to minimize delays for commuters, allowing temporary lane closures only after 8PM and prior to 5:30AM Monday-to-Friday. Lane closures will not be permitted on Sundays or statutory holidays.
Nighttime closures may necessitate delays of 15-to-30 minutes. Prior to any lengthy disruptions to traffic, advance notice will be issued to motorists by the ministry.
The project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2018. C
