The average monthly volume of cyclist movements along Victoria’s newly built Pandora Avenue protected bike lane is 42,949, according to municipal data.
Newly updated cyclist travel figures along the bi-directional bikeway shows ridership in the month of May at 38,772 and peaking in July with 53,185 movements. Figures for the month of October, the most recent data available, show 33,629 movements.
The City calculates cyclist movements through counters installed in the pavement.
The Pandora Avenue protected bike lane opened in the spring between Cook and Store streets along the one-way thoroughfare. Currently under construction is a two-way Fort Street bike lane between Linden Avenue and Wharf Street.
Victoria’s so-called ‘biketoria’ cycling network is planned to incorporate over 5.4 kilometres of protected cycling lanes by the end of 2018. In addition to Pandora Avenue and Fort Street, the first phase of Victoria’s protected cycling network will incorporate lanes along Wharf Street, Humboldt Street and Cook Street. C
