A 100-child daycare has been proposed for the Belmont Market mixed-use retail, office and residential development along Jacklin Road in Langford, Citified has learned.
Belmont Market developer Crombie REIT, on behalf of operator CEFA Early Learning, has applied to the City of Langford to permit an increase in daycare spaces from a maximum of 36 to 100 as part of a 6,100 square foot facility at the 160,000 square foot complex.
Vancouver-based Core Education & Fine Arts, or CEFA for short, was established in 1998 as Canada’s first private school for the early years. The company operates 17 locations throughout Metro Vancouver, Toronto and Kelowna. CEFA’s Langford location would be its first on Vancouver Island.
CEFA’s website describes its programs as geared towards the development of a “child’s intellect [by] delivering the finest start in education, arts, and the humanities.” Classes are offered on a full-day basis between two and five days per week to fit within family schedules and child care requirements.
Belmont Market, under construction since last year, will open its first phase of commercial spaces later this year. Anchored by a 52,000 square foot Thrifty Foods grocery store, the shopping centre will feature a number of national and international retailers, and nearly 450 residences in the form of rental apartments and market condominiums developed by Ledcor Property Development.
The CEFA school is expected to open in 2019. C
