A high-tech car wash operation along with an auto-focused commercial centre has been proposed for the West Shore, and if approved, would deliver the first of its kind to Vancouver Island.

 

Surrey-based Aadni Group has submitted a proposal to the City of Colwood for 2361 and 2363 Sooke Road/Highway 14 at Veterans Memorial Parkway to rezone the parcels from a residential usage, to a unique comprehensive development zone permitting operations like a car wash, convenience store operations, retail usage, electric vehicle charging and a gas station.

 

Aadni Group’s Speedwash concept, currently operating in several locations on the mainland, will be at the centre of the project. Utilizing an automated system, the car wash is billed as the the country’s “most exciting automatic car wash,” utilizing a pulley that moves vehicles along a cleaning tunnel as opposed to vehicles remaining stationary and machinery moving around the vehicle in a traditional car wash. Existing locations operate 24 hours a day, and use “eco friendly” products, according to the company.

 

Such car wash system are capable of cleaning more vehicles, faster, with the tunnel accommodating several vehicles at a time as opposed to one car wash bay capable of cleaning one vehicle.

 

A project site plan submitted by the applicant identifies a convenience store occupying a 5,600 square foot building fronting the Veterans Memorial Parkway and Sooke Road intersection at 2361 Sooke Road, along with three additional commercial units of 900 to 1,100 square foot spaces to its south.

 

On the 2363 Sooke Road lot, which spans north-to-south along a narrow strip, the Speedwash car wash tunnel will operate, connected by Wildcat Trail (that spans from Allandale Road to the south) from the 2361 Sooke Road parcel.

The Greater Victoria Speedwash is one of two currently planned by the company, the other in Kamloops.

 

The proposal is the latest in the immediate area within the City of Colwood, which is seeing significant redevelopment on the multi-acre Allandale Lands south of Sooke Road along Veterans Memorial Parkway, which includes a BC Transit supply facility, an automotive dealership from the Carson Automotive Group, a McDonald’s restaurant and a Washington Marine Group warehouse, among other projects and uses.

 

The Veterans Memorial Parkway and Sooke Road intersection is also ground zero for multiple residential projects, including the already approved Elysian Terraces condominium, rental and townhome project, and several emerging concepts for nearby properties. C
