Operators involved in Victoria’s popular Fishhook seafood eatery are reportedly opening three additional locations in the city’s downtown core and James Bay, Citified has learned.

Sources tell Citified the concept for the three locations – reportedly eyed for the retail component of Jawl Properties’ nearly completed 1515 Douglas and 750 Pandora office development, a vacant retail space at the foot of Swift Street and an office complex nearing completion in James Bay – may not necessarily mirror Fishhook's Fort Street offerings, although there will likely be a seafood component to the menu.

Fishhook's growth and expected new menu offerings follow a trend set recently by the Tacofino chain of Mexican-inspired eateries which dropped its taco roots for Middle Eastern dishes at the newly-opened SuperBaba (at Johnson Street at Blanshard Street). In fact Tacofino, in response to a Citified article that broke the news of the company’s intention to expand its downtown presence, cheekily adorned the windows of its second local eatery with the wording “This is not a Tacofino.”

1515 Douglas and 750 Pandora, underway since 2015 and rising to six and 13-storeys, respectively, will include a number of retail spaces along their Douglas Street and Pandora Avenue frontages. The high-profile buildings will house an expanded headquarters of the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation as its anchor tenant, along with offices of several local firms.

Tenant move-ins are scheduled to begin this fall while retail operators could start opening by late 2017 and early 2018. C

Editor's note: an earlier version of this article referenced Red Fish, Blue Fish as a business associated with Fishhook. There is no association between Red Fish, Blue Fish and the operators of Fishhook.
