The old theatre is a real throwback and a true community gem. It's often close to a packed house, and they do the best popcorn with real butter anywhere in the CRD. I hope some local history buff goes and takes a bunch of photos before they close shop. I encourage anyone on the forum to go see a movie there before it closes-- it's a great experience... these days it is rare to experience a locally owned (ie., not cineplex odeon) cinema.

IMAX Victoria (RBCM) is the best I've tried in the CRD. ;)

Is it going to remain independently owned? It will be strange to have a new, modern theatre that isn't a Cineplex.

Yup! Sandy Oliver (the owner) will be setting up shop in a temporary location for two years apparently, and then moving her business into Cameo when it is complete. Not sure how the land ownership is being handled, as I imagine she owns the property.

Sidney's Star Cinema closes this fall to make way for its 'Cameo' appearance in 2020
Celebrating 20-years as the Saanich Peninsula's movie house, Star Cinema will close this year and re-emerge as a modern theatre within the Cameo condominium development.
