Quadra Village Shopping Centre's Cascadia Liquor Store could soon be on the move, Citified has learned.

Cascadia operator The Truffles Group of Companies (TGC) has applied to the City of Victoria to relocate its existing storefront – situated across from the entrance to Fairways Market – into a larger space at the shopping centre formerly occupied by an Aaron's rent-to-own furniture store.

The move to a larger and stand-alone retail building at 2670 Fifth Street, according to a letter prepared by Keith Barbon of TGC to City of Victoria council, will "support the vibrant growth of Quadra Village, including an increased demand for extended products and services," "facilitate efficient product receiving ...currently handled on the exterior sidewalk causing disruption to neighbouring tenants and customers," "create a presence at the northern end of the [shopping centre]," and "offer an elevated shopping experience."

The square footage of the larger space amounts to over 4,700 square feet, although less than 3,000 will be used for the liquor store's retail operations. The existing storefront totals some 2,000 square feet.

As part of its move, TGC plans to upgrade the building's exterior and undertake significant improvements to the interior retail environment.

Cascadia Liquor received approvals for a liquor store at Quadra Village Shopping Centre nearly a decade ago. A condition of council's support required TGC to agree to refrain from expanding its operations at the shopping centre. TGC, however, maintains the "logistical challenges" of the current location and the store's long time positive presence on the shopping centre and its immediate surroundings make it a strong candidate for an expanded operation.

If council supports the application, TGC's plans are expected to be aired at a public hearing and will undergo a formal civic planning process. C
