If the rumours are true Victorians could soon be dining at not one, but two Five Guys Burgers & Fries restaurants slated to open in the Capital Region by early 2019.

Virginia-based Five Guys has rocketed to notoriety since its humble beginnings some 32-years-ago in the DC Metro area to become the fastest growing burger chain in the United States and claim the title as America’s favourite burger restaurant, according to American pollster Harris Poll Equitrend, which has now pegged Five Guys ahead of In-N-Out Burger.

With nearly 1,500 locations across the United States, Canada, Europe and the Middle East, Five Guys has set a course for rapid expansion with a focus on Canada and Europe.

Just under 70 franchises are currently operating throughout Canada with another dozen planned to open in Quebec and the eastern provinces over the near-term.

BC locations include Chilliwack, Port Coquitlam, Surrey, Vancouver, West Vancouver and Westbank near Kelowna.

Although Citified reached the company for comment, representatives were unwilling to confirm the future locations of Five Guys eateries in the Capital, or whether additional restaurants are expected to open in other jurisdictions on Vancouver Island.

Victoria’s burger restaurant industry has enjoyed significant growth in recent years with a Fat Burger opening in downtown Victoria (and a second location coming soon to Langford), two Johnny Rocket’s restaurants in downtown Victoria and along the Hillside Avenue corridor, plus the expansion of local burger eateries Bin 4 and Big Wheel Burger with four and three locations across the region, respectively.
