Mile Zero Micro-brewery has applied to the provincial Liquor and Cannabis Licensing Branch for a liquor manufacturing license along with an on-site consumption license, known as a lounge license, permitting indoor and outdoor serving of alcohol.

As part of the application process, the District of Metchosin has canvassed nearby residents who had until February 18th to respond to the proposal, which includes operating hours to 10PM daily save for Fridays and Saturdays when operating hours will extend to a maximum of 11PM. Council is holding a public hearing for the application on February 28th.

According to submitted architectural schematics, Mile Zero’s indoor seating will span an area of approximately 400 square feet, with twice that for an outdoor patio component.

The micro-brewery is planned for a commercial unit just steps from Metchosin’s popular My-Chosen Cafe, which has operated since 1987 from the intersection of Metchosin and Happy Valley roads.

Happy Valley Road between Metchosin and Rocky Point roads has been identified by the district as a Village Centre Development Permit area planned as a commercial node for Metchosin residents. District planners say the nature of commercial operations must be compatible with, and contribute to, the rural nature of the community.

Metchosin council has already permitted Mile Zero’s proposed modifications to its operating space, according to municpal documents prepared by district planners. C
