Ultra low-fare start-up New Leaf is offering deep discounts on airfare between Victoria and Edmonton as it takes on Canada's established carriers.
For just $6.54, plus fees and taxes that add up to a total cost of $49 per passenger, New Leaf will fly Victorians to Alberta's capital for less than the cost of a taxi fare to Victoria International Airport.
Effective dates include September 3rd, 7th, 10th, 14th, 17th, 21st, 24th, and 28th, and continue into October.
The return leg, albeit slightly more expensive at $20.11, totals $79 with fees and surcharges. Some dates on the inbound leg creep higher than $20.11, although compared to Westjet and Air Canada, they're still a bargain.
The one caveat is pieces of luggage weighing over 22 pounds and larger than what can be stowed under a passenger seat, including carry-ons, are charged additional fees.
New Leaf is a Winnipeg-based travel company that launched Canada-wide operations this summer using 737 jets chartered from Kelowna-based Flair Air. New Leaf offers flights connecting Victoria International Airport with Edmonton, Hamilton, Kamloops and Winnipeg.
